Our
lives are made up of history, recent and long past and that is what we drew upon
when originally creating our Lizzie High Dolls.
Time and again, we are asked “Where did you get that idea?”
Remembering people and events from the past has always been a source of
inspiration for our family of dolls. Trunks
and treasures have frequently provided us with the needed inspiration to portray
people from the past in our dolls. We
are proud to present our History of America Dolls, beginning with our Civil
War Series.
Our
Civil War Doll Series begins with Alexander T. High and his wife Lizzie,
the namesake of our dolls. When
Alexander T. High rode off to fight for the Union in August of 1861, he proudly
wore his blue Union uniform and joined H Company of the Third Regiment
of the Pennsylvania Calvary Volunteers.
Eager to serve and willing to defend the safety of home he left behind,
Alexander fought until he was captured at The Battle of Mine Run, near
Fredericksburg. Perhaps
thoughts of the green hills of his Pennsylvania home and loved ones gave him the
strength to survive his capture and detention for two years at the notorious Confederate
Prison of Andersonville.
Alexander
was mustered out on May 27th, 1865, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and
a parchment replica of his original discharge papers is included with each doll.
We created the Civil War Series to commemorate his service and to provide
a reminder of the legacy of loyal patriots from the North and the South who took
part in the struggles that became The United States of America we know today.
Barbara
and Peter Wisber were both born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and the history
of the City of Brotherly Love was their inspiration for the Philadelphia
Spirit Series, beginning with Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross and
continuing with William Penn and
his family.
The
American Spirit Series
reflects the pride in our National Heroes, honoring some bigger than life and
others like your neighbor next door.
Beginning with the Father of our Country, George Washington and his
wife, Martha, we also have some Exclusive American Spirit dolls
available through Lily’s Pad Gift Shoppe.
These exclusive dolls, Faith and Hope, honor our brave
servicemen and women with donations being made to Veterans’ Organizations.
